AJ's Update

OK, so I guess I didn't go into much details as to the how and why that AJ is in the hospital, so here goes:

Last Tuesday, AJ (16 months, btw) managed to climb up high enough to reach a little 4 cup coffee pot that was on a kitchen counter. It was empty, but he turned it on, and burned his hand on the warming plate. We rushed him to the emergency room, they dressed it with burn cream, and refered us to another hospital for a follow-up visit at their Burn Recovery Unit.

We went ther on Friday, expecting to have the blisters popped, getting shown how to properly clean and treat his hand, and then were planning on going to Philadelphia with my Dad, Heidi and her some Mike, who were visiting us from Michigan. As soon as they cut the blister, which covered half of his palm, they called for a burn surgeon, and admitted us into the hospital.

Saturday morning, he was in surgery for over 3 hours. The burns were 3rd degree, not 2nd degree as was first thought, and they had to take skin from his hip to transplant on his hand and fingers.

Tomorrow (Tuesday the 23rd) they are going to remove the dressings, and see if the graft was successful or not. I will update everyone when I know more.

Dave
